Sony and Honda I hope you feel the name of their new car company.
Technology and automotive giants were created Sony Honda Mobility last year to develop an electric vehicle brand and announced at CES on Wednesday that it would be called Afeela.
Avila expresses an interactive relationship where people “feel” mobility as an intelligent entity, and mobility “feels people and society using networking and sensing IT technologies,” the company said.
The name was put on a prototype of the brand’s first car, which will be built in the United States starting in 2026.
The four-door sedan has a simple design and is equipped with a huge set of electronics.
It incorporates 45 Sony-made sensors inside and out that include cameras, radar and lidar to enable security, semi-autonomous driving and interactive systems.
The interior features digital screens covering the dash, two more for the rear passengers and video camera side mirrors, which are legal in some countries, but not yet in the United States.
The electronics are powered by the powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon digital architecture and use infotainment software developed by Epic Games.
Powertrain specifications, driving range and pricing have not been announced, nor has the exact location where it will be produced.
Honda will launch All-electric Prologue SUV Next year in partnership with General Motors, but it’s also building its own battery and electric vehicle manufacturing facilities in Ohio, which is slated to start operating in 2026.
