In a new development on Saturday evening, Abramovich released a statement today Chelsea’s official website He stressed that he would transfer the “supervision and care” of the club to their charitable foundation.

He said: “During ownership of Chelsea FC for nearly 20 years, I have always seen my role as a goalkeeper, whose mission is to ensure we are as successful as we can be today, as well as build for the future, while also playing a positive role in our communities.

“I have always made decisions with the club’s best interests at heart. I remain committed to these values.

“That is why today I give the trustees of the Chelsea Foundation the stewardship and care of Chelsea FC.

“I think they are currently in the best position to look after the interests of the club, the players, the staff and the fans.”

Abramovich’s statement follows Labor MP Chris Bryant called for him to be banned From owning Chelsea and confiscating his assets.

He said: “Surely Mr. Abramovich should not be able to own a football club in this country?
