Harry and Meghan: What we learned from the Netflix series

Harry and Meghan: What we learned from the Netflix series

“A lot of what Megan is, and how she is, is very much like my mom,” he said in the first episode of the series. “She has the same empathy, the same empathy, she has the same confidence, and she has this warmth about her.”

Harry said he also saw himself as following Diana’s legacy. He said, “I am my mother’s son.” Of his philanthropy, he added, “I wanted in a way to carry my mother’s torch and try to keep her legacy alive and try to make her proud.”

Doria Ragland, Meghan’s mother, sat down for a rare interview on the documentary series. In the second episode, she discusses her daughter’s childhood and her relationship with Harry. When the couple started receiving negative treatment in the British press, Ragland said, she told Meghan it was because her daughter was mixed-race.

“I told her—I remember that very clearly—that this was about race,” Ragland recalled. She added, “You may not want to hear it, but that’s what comes down a pike.”

In the third episode of the series, Ragland said she was “hounded by the paparazzi”, adding, “I felt so insecure. I can’t just walk my dogs, I can’t just go to work. You know, there was always somebody waiting for me and following me.”

Before she and Harry got engaged, and before she could get a security detail, Meghan called the police in Toronto to ask for help dealing with the paparazzi who were following her, she said in the second episode.
