Christie told Vogue in an interview that stylist Colleen Atwood made her feel “festive.”
“Game of Thrones” star Gwendolyn Christie was played by Larissa Weems in the hit Netflix series “Wednesday,” a character whose elegant style was a far cry from the armor of Brienne of Tarth. While Breaking down 10 of her fashion looks for VogueChristie paid tribute to the hit show’s costume designer for making her feel incredible.
“I was overwhelmed by the opportunity to work with Colin Atwood,” said Christie.
Atwood and Christy have been on the same page since the beginning when it comes to Larissa’s visual beauty. Atwood thought the look should have been inspired by “The Birds” star Tippi Hedren, and Christie was already dreaming up the “Hitchcock heroine” style.
“Colin and I had these amazing constructs where she has a laser-like mind,” Christy said. “She always made me feel festive. She made me feel like my body was beautiful—that I It was beautiful, that I dressed well, and that my ideas were welcome and relevant.”
Christie said she felt ready to play a character completely opposite Brienne of Tarth in “Game of Thrones,” who was often looked down upon because of her looks and her desires to be a woman and a knight.
“That character had to overcome a lot of shame regarding the way society treats the character,” Christie said. “But this is a bold, confident and proud character.
Reflecting on her TV outfits and red carpet looks along with her runway looks, the 6’3″ star said that people in the fashion world welcomed her much more quickly than in Hollywood.
“It took a long time for me to feel embraced by the acting industry, but the fashion industry embraced me,” Christie said. “For everything society said about me didn’t work. For everything about my voice, my opinions, my sense of humor, my desire to change and transform, and at the same time demand to take up space with the body I was born into.
