Dizzy as visitors were trapped inside as Disneyland Park closed its doors in Shanghai last night: they could only leave for the next few hours on one condition – video

The Disneyland theme park closed its doors in Shanghai yesterday due to an emergency lockdown ordered by Chinese authorities, with tourists unable to leave its grounds until they test negative for Covid-19.

Tourists must stay inside Shanghai’s Disneyland theme park “until they test negative there,” officials said in a statement posted online Monday.

Officials underlined that everyone visiting the park from Thursday must test negative for Covid-19 three times, for three consecutive days, and “avoid participating in communal activities”. However, park officials did not disclose the number of stranded visitors.

“The park will be temporarily closed in accordance with infection control measures,” Disney previously announced, “and we will let you know when we have a reopening date.” The park covers a total area of 390 hectares including Disneyland Shanghai, Disneytown and Wishing Star Park.

As of Monday, China had recorded 2,699 cases of Covid-19, including ten asymptomatic cases in Shanghai, according to the National Health Commission.

China was the last major economy to use the zero-covid policy, which allows for near-mandatory PCR tests several times a week or quarantine of people from high-risk areas once positive cases emerge. These measures can lead to unexpected shutdowns of businesses and factories, which greatly affects the economy.
