HBO’s The Last of Us has been garnering attention all over the internet, but you might not have expected the hit video game adaptation to be dragged into Microsoft and Activision Blizzard’s merger mode.
on me TwitterActivision Blizzard CCO Lulu Cheng Meservey drew attention to the show’s success, writing: “It’s a real movie, watched by tens of millions… You may be particularly interested in the fact that The Last of Us was produced by Sony Pictures Television and PlayStation Productions.”
Hello FTC Did you watch last night’s episode of The Last of Us? It was incredible.
No wonder the show is breaking records. It’s a real movie, watched by tens of millions.
If you haven’t already, you should check it out. You may be particularly interested in the fact that pic.twitter.com/MhcT0DmOsM

Meservey went on to say that the success of The Last of Us and subsequent renewed interest in the video game meant there was no reason to worry that Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard would dampen competition.
“Sony has an unparalleled advantage in intellectual property, not just in games but in television, film and music – which can be developed into games, or which can commercialize existing games,” Meservey continued. “It’s no wonder they also continue to dominate as the market leader for consoles. In gaming, Sony is ‘first of us’ — and you’d be just fine without the protections of the FTC.”
This is another example of Microsoft and Activision Blizzard either tearing themselves apart or boosting Sony in an effort to push through the merger. Microsoft previously contacted PlayStation too big to fail While he said the Xbox had “a number of significant drawbacks” compared to its competitor’s platforms.
